This summer Dominic Bate will spend a month as a visiting scholar at the Yale Center for British Art, where he will be working on an article about the eighteenth-century artist Giles Hussey and his mathematical approach to drawing the human figure, which attempted to reconcile empirical observation with Platonic idealism.
