Professor Dietrich Neumann Receives Brown University Research Resilience Award

Bannister landscape, Neumann head shotProfessor Deitrich Neumann was recently awarded a 2026 The Research Resilience Award (RRA) for the planned exhibition Edward Mitchell Bannister: A Black Artist in 19th Century New England, intended to open in 2027 and travel nationally through 2028, the 200th anniversary of Bannister’s birth date. The award will fund exhibition research and development by Neumann and Rhode Island College Associate Professor Sara Picard, together with the project's advisory board members, Brown University faculty members Anthony Bogues, Mack Scott and Patricia Rubertone and Registrar and Curator of Campus Collections Nicole Wholean. Notably, the exhibition is expected to be the first major Bannister retrospective, and will come with an accompanying catalog.
