HIAA Faculty Spotlight!
Assistant Professor Rodríguez has been conducting extensive research on the sacred waters of the ancient world in Italy and Greece during her sabbatical. While in Greece this summer she visited the island of Samothrace, which houses the Sanctuary of the Great Gods, one of the most important pan-Hellenic sanctuaries of the ancient Mediterranean world. There she was guided by Brown alum (‘11 JIAAW) Dr. Samuel Holzman from Princeton’s Art and Archaeology department.

Professor Rodríguez then traveled to the island of Kos to conduct research at the ancient sanctuary of Asklepios, an important healing sanctuary and the place where the ancient physician Hippocrates lived and taught medicine. She was joined there by Grace Hermes, a doctoral candidate in the Joukowsky Institute, who is also conducting research on healing sanctuaries.
