 Professor Stephen Houston, who studies Mayan art and writing systems and is Professor and Chair of Anthropology, and Professor of History of Art and Architecture has been appointed the 72nd Andrew W. Mellon Lecturer in the Fine Arts at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, for the Spring semester of 2023.  The series was inaugurated in 1949 to "bring to the people of the United States the results of the best contemporary thought and scholarship bearing upon the subject of the Fine Arts” from any discipline.
