Professor Dietrich Neumann, Professor of Architecture in HIAA has been selected for a three-year appointment to lead The John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities and Cultural Heritage. He succeeds Professor Susan Smulyan who was director from 2017-2020. As director, Professor Neumann looks forward to broadening the relationships of the Public Humanities with many departments, in particular, with the History of Art and Architecture department.
HIAA courses on museums, our critical interest in public art, and our annual practicum classes make HIAA and the JNBC perfect partners. Professor Neumann hopes to make the spectacular 1792 Nightingale Brown House, where the center is located, a vibrant and inviting place for lectures, discussions and convivial gatherings for the Brown and Providence communities.
