Book Reviews by Professor Lindsay Caplan

Assistant Professor, Lindsay Caplan, has written an article “Art and Technocracy” about two recent books on art and neoliberalism for the September 2020 issue of Art in America. Caplan writes that these books “aim to historicize the ways that the language of art has served to legitimize the logic of neoliberalism,” stating that “Artists are the ideal neoliberal worker: innovative, flexible, inclined to valorize and personalize risk. Corporations are quick to frame their profit motives using the terminology of experimentation and social praxis that once enlivened avant-garde manifestos.”
